Q: Where and how can I store NOVA Probiotics?

A: Storing your NOVA Probiotics at room temperature (up to 25o C) will be just fine, even after the product has been opened. NOVA Probiotics are shelf-stable products approved by Health Canada. *Thanks to manufacturing processes and technologies such as freeze-drying and microencapsulation.*
Q: Can I keep NOVA Probiotics in the refrigerator?

A: Sure, refrigeration won’t cause any damage to the product.
Q: Are the probiotic bacteria in NOVA Probiotics alive?

A: Of course, the processes used during manufacturing remove all the humidity from the bacteria and get them in a dormant state. The bacteria come active again once they reach the heat and churning of your stomach.
Q: What are the capsules made of?

A: Vegetable cellulose.
Q: Are the capsules enteric-coated?

A: Yes. Enteric-coating is crucial for the efficacy of a probiotic product. As a matter of fact, it provides the bacteria an excellent protection to resist the acidic environment of the stomach and increase their survival up to the intestine.
Q: I can’t swallow pills. Can I open the capsules and just take the powder?

A: Yes. Although NOVA Probiotics were designed to be swallowed in capsule form, you can still receive benefits if you prefer to open the capsules and pour the powder into your mouth or sprinkle it over your food. *Our probiotic strains are bile and acid resistant.*
Q: What does the powder in the capsules taste like?

A: NOVA Probiotics are made with natural plum powder so, it has a delicious, naturally sweet fruity taste.
Q: Is NOVA Probiotics safe for children?

A:Yes. NOVA has two probiotic powders especially made for kids aged 1 to 12-years-old. One offers 2 Billion active bacteria per serving and the other one, 6 Billion dairy-free active bacteria per serving. Remember, probiotics simply are naturally occurring bacteria of your GI tract.
Q: Do these probiotic powders for kids taste good? And, can I dilute a serving in water or in juice?

A:Kids love it. The natural plum powder makes it just sweet enough to take the serving right into the mouth. As an alternative, we recommend to sprinkle it on food like cereals, applesauce and yogurt or to add it to a smoothie. The reason why we don’t recommend mixing it in water or any liquid is that the powders won’t dissolve very well.
Q: When should NOVA Probiotics be taken?

A:We recommend taking NOVA Probiotics either with a meal or 30 minutes before a meal. While many people prefer to take their supplements in the morning, the time of the day does not affect efficiency of NOVA Probiotics.
Q: Can a pregnant woman take NOVA Probiotics?

A: Yes, NOVA Probiotics are safe to take while pregnant or nursing. In fact, many studies support probiotic supplementation during pregnancy and breastfeeding because mothers play an important role in building the health foundation of their children. Benefits like lower risks of eczema, allergies or asthma and stronger immune systems are associated with a daily probiotic regimen during pregnancy.

Q: What are the benefits of taking probiotic supplements?

A: Probiotics are “good bacteria” that can provide many health benefits to their host when administered in adequate amounts. (Click here for further information.)
Q: What are the symptoms associated with an imbalanced intestinal ecosystem?

A: A balanced gut microbiota is key to ensuring proper digestive functioning and to promoting overall health. Accordingly, disruption of the healthy balance between good and bad bacteria in the gut can create many symptoms like bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux or nutrients malabsorption and, it can even be the cause of an inflammatory bowel disease. Insufficient number of good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract can also promote the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections like urinary tract infections, vaginal infections, systemic yeast overgrowth, ear infections and oral infections.
Q: What’s the difference with NOVA; what is it that makes NOVA Probiotics stand out from other probiotic supplements?

A:– NOVA Probiotics are MD formulated and tested in an independent lab. – There are clinical studies on each probiotic strains. – NOVA offers the widest range of probiotics on the market today, including formulations with 14 medicinal (human) probiotic strains, vegan (dairy-free) formulations, kid formulations and pet formulations (for dogs, cats and horses). – NOVA’s strongest products (73 Billion active bacteria per capsule) can help alleviate the symptoms of serious digestive disorders such as Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Celiac Disease, IBS, Lactose Intolerance, Diverticular Disease, etc. – NOVA Probiotics are shelf-stable thus very convenient especially when traveling. – NOVA guarantees its products are only made of the purest ingredients: no gluten, artificial additives, animal derivatives, chemicals, preservatives, wheat, nuts, peanuts, corn, egg, fish or shellfish, hormones, antibiotic traces, GMO, pesticides or heavy metals.
Q: Where in the body do probiotics live and perform their beneficial activities?

A: These friendly bacteria colonize, multiply and perform their beneficial functions along the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus but mainly in the intestines.
Q: What beneficial functions do probiotics take care of in the intestinal tract?

A: Probiotic bacteria improve digestibility and assimilation of the nutrients and minerals in the foods that are ingested into the body through the mouth, resulting in a stronger immune system, enhanced energy levels and better overall health.
Q: Is there any link between a person’s age and the supply of beneficial bacteria in his intestines?

A: Yes. When aging, the human body progressively loses its supply of beneficial bacteria, especially its bifidobacteria. For that simple reason, it is important for everyone, regardless of age, to replenish the lost probiotic bacteria by taking a good probiotic supplement including multiple strains of bifidobacteria. *NOVA Probiotics has a special formula for older adults: The Progressive 55+ years – with 42 Billion live cells per capsule from 14 medicinal probiotic strains.*
Q: Do some everyday foods like yogurts contain probiotics?

A: Yes. You can find probiotics in few fermented dairies or veggies and in some beverages like Kombucha. However, the quantities remain little even when compared to the weakest NOVA Probiotics, product that contains 4 Billion live cells per capsule.
Q: If I eat a lot of these foods every day, will I get all the probiotics my body needs?

A: No. The problem is that the bacteria in the foods are easily destroyed by the strong acids and bile salts of the stomach.
Q: Then, why aren’t the beneficial bacteria in NOVA Probiotics likewise neutralized by the strong acids and bile salts of the stomach?

A: Because NOVA uses microencapsulation and enteric-coating as protections to ensure survival of the bacteria up to the small intestines where the metabolism, digestion and absorption of nutrients mainly take place.
Q: Is there any relationship between probiotic supplementation and longevity (meaning the length of life)?

A: There is good evidence that the longer you can maintain the health of your body, the longer you will live. Providing your body with superior-quality probiotic supplements like NOVA Probiotics helps improve metabolism, enhance digestion and absorption of nutrients, and strengthens the immune system. These are factors that contribute to maintenance of health, which in turn may support longevity of physical life.
